The Buckinghamshire Posse Comitatus 1798

In February 1798. as part of the preparations for defending England from Napoleon, a survey was undertaken in Buckinghamshire of the names and occupations of all the men between the ages of 15 and 60 years, in each of the hundreds of the County. They could be needed to help defend the country in the event of a possible French invasion.  Of the 91 people named in Swanbourne, 13 were farmers, 4 butchers, 1 baker, 3 carpenters, 2 wheelwrights, 3 blacksmiths, 1 shop keeper, 2 gardeners, 6 cordwainers. 3 taylors, 1 tinker, 1 chimneysweep, 13 servants, 37 labourers and 1 constable.
